The Requirements
To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:- A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other applicable field. A master's is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, including:
- Solid experience in regulated industries, preferably medical device.
- A track record of success at running cross-functional teams addressing challenging technical projects.

- Experience with product development.
- The willingness, interest and drive to do what's necessary to successfully complete a project.
- The ability to:
- Be a strong mentor to other engineers and to take on responsibility for supervision of direct reports.
- Apply engineering principles to methodically solve technical challenges.
- Provide review and analysis of intellectual property.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Engineering principles.
- ISO certification and FDA or other regulatory agency compliance.
- Mechanical drawing and use of CAD software; SolidWorks experience is preferred.
- Machines / prototyping / fabrication methods.
The Role
Reporting to the Director of Product Development, as Program Engineer you will be responsible for supervising one or more teams (small to large) of engineers and technicians solving complex technical challenges. Many of these projects will be focused on developing innovative medical device technologies. In some cases, these projects will require working with other engineering teams at international locations. Quick question for you - click hereAdditionally, you will assist the Director of Product Development with improving the overall efficiency, proficiency and work environment for the Product Development team. This may involve developing or improving internal systems, standard operating procedures and training methods.
Being able to effectively communicate and collaborate with the Spiration management team, Product Development group and other staff on engineering capabilities, schedules, and other considerations is critical.
More specifically, you will:
- Act as project manager on small to large engineering teams. Be responsible for creating and maintaining project schedules, plans and budgets. Ensure good communication with all stakeholders, including those at international Olympus affiliates.
- Ensure compliance with the product development process.
- Work closely with other engineers and technicians; training and mentoring less experienced staff is a very important part of the job.
- Use engineering skills and knowledge to effectively and methodically solve technical problems. This can include issues in design, manufacturing and clinical use.
- Review internal and external intellectual property, especially patents.
- Perform other duties as necessary and assigned.
